New Year's Day Clout Shoot 2008

Another near-perfect winter's archery day, with no wind to upset the arrows, and 18 archers turned up for the annual event. After getting over the disappointment of finding the bar closed beforehand, we took to the field. Accuracy improved as the 3 dozen arrows progressed and by the end everyone had scored points. There were some excellent scores, certainly the best in the last few years, with Dave Burns again taking home the winner's tankard. We finished as usual with mulled wine and Christmas cake, and adjourned to the now-open bar.

Winner - Dave Burns 88

Second - Mike Crayford 74

Third - Sarah Trout 71

Fourth - Linda Haines 65

National Record

Congratulations to Linda Haines on shooting a new Ladies Recurve National Record score of 934 for a Windsor round at Meriden on October 7th 2007.

Simon de Montfort Trophy - June 17th 2007

The annual match with Malvern took place this year at Badsey and in spite of some rain beforehand requiring pumping of water from the field, the event, a Western, took place in dry, mainly sunny conditions. There was some excellent shooting by archers from both Clubs, with Simon Tarplee scoring a maximum. The overall result, decided on a combination of straight and handicap scores went this year to Evesham. An enjoyable afternoon concluded with presentations and Heather's usual excellent refreshments. There are some photos on the Photo Album page.

New Year's Day Clout Shoot 2007

16 archers turned up at the Club for the traditional New Year's Day Clout Shoot, among them several new archers who had not shot a clout before. The ground was wet, but the weather was dry and not too cold. After a fortifying drink in the bar we adjourned to the field, already marked out by Ian Trout. Half a dozen sighters and then we were off on the 3 dozen arrow shoot. It's surprising how far an arrow will go when shot up in the air, and we were soon getting arrows close to the target, including 2 which actually hit the clout. We finished just as the rain started and adjourned to the changing rooms to add up the scores and partake of Heather's excellent mulled wine and Christmas cake.

There were some excellent scores, including a creditable 41 from first year archer Chris Bream, and we returned home after a good dose of fresh air and with 2007 shooting off to an enjoyable start.

Winner - Dave Burns 77

Second - Ian Trout 62

Third - Linda Haines 51

Fourth - Chris Bream 41

FITA Head to Head Shoot 2006

May 21st saw the dawn of a new competition for Evesham Archery Club, which we now hope to turn into an annual event. Despite the appalling wet weather, the shooting went on and the archers lost none of their morale. After huddling together in a group of soaking raincoats, super burgers were enjoyed with good spirts, as was a great deal of successful archery. Living up to its reputation, EAC hosted another brilliant shoot. The work party was an incredible team this year, which made this a successful event. Thanks go to all those who helped to setup, the only thing they didn't manage to fix was the weather but they can't do everything.

This event attracted many top class archers from all over the country who shot excellent scores despite the weather.

Details of the 2007 event are now on the Open Tournaments page
